The Russo-produced docuseries, Slugfest will be narrated by director and comic book connoisseur Kevin Smith. Slugfest will arrive on Roku in late December and the streaming platform recently released the first official trailer for the docuseries. Each of Slugfest’s 10 episodes will consist of Smith’s narration, re-enactments of key moments from the history of both franchises, various interviews, and an in-depth history of the rivalry. Slugfest is inspired by the Reed Tucker book, Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle Between Marvel and DC.

The rivalry between Marvel and DC has gone on dating back to the printing of Marvel’s first comics. Brian Tannenbaum, Roku’s Head of Alternative Originals spoke on what fans of both Marvel and DC will be able to take away from the docuseries. “After watching Slugfest, even the most die-hard superhero fan will gain a newfound perspective on how one competitive relationship shared fandom culture into what it is today,” Tannenbaum told Deadline. He went on to express his excitement about the Russo Brothers’ contribution to the series. “Collaborating with the Russo Brothers to tell the backstory behind one of the most epic creative battles in the history of Hollywood was an incredible experience and we can’t wait to share this story with audiences on The Roku Channel,” Tannenbaum said.

According to Slugfest’s executive producers, “Audiences will leave Slugfest with a whole new understanding of how the rivalry between two creative powerhouses shaped the iconic storylines and characters that fans around the world have come to know and love,” said the Russos. Don Argott, one of Slugfest’s directors, added to the Russo Brothers’ enthusiasm. “We wanted to tell the story of the creative competition that to this day continues to captivate fans across generations,” Argott said.

Smith’s extensive knowledge of comics and superheroes makes him an ideal candidate to host the Slugfest docuseries. When combined with the Russo Brothers’ impressive directing resume, Slugfest will be a treat to fans of all superheroes and villains. Whether viewers find themselves on team Marvel, DC, or identify as an eager fan of both, there will be plenty to learn and take away from the series.

Slugfest will premiere on Roku on December 24, 2021.
