The Sex Lives of College Girls is a comedy series co-created by Mindy Kaling, who recently teamed up with HBO for her Velma series. Kaling developed The Sex Lives of College Girls alongside Justin Noble, and the series follows four 18-year-old freshmen as they attempt to navigate the hardships of college. The series stars Pauline Chalamet as Kimberly, Amrit Kaur as Bela, Renee Rapp as Leighton, and Alyah Chanelle Scott as Whitney.

WarnerMedia announced The Sex Lives of College Girls season 3 the day before the second season concluded. “Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble continue to brilliantly capture the college experience in the most entertaining and relatable way,” said Suzanna Makkos, the Executive VP of Original Comedy and Adult Animation at HBO Max, in a statement. “This series is the perfect balance of comedy, sex, curiosity, and chaos, and we can’t wait to see what the next season brings.”
The Sex Lives of College Girls does not release its viewing data, but it is reportedly the number one original series on HBO Max. Its renewal is no surprise, and cancellation would likely be worrying, considering its status. Other series have not survived the recent changes at HBO Max, including the renewed but later cancelled Minx.
Due to a new practice under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav, the company has been cancelling and removing many of its shows and films from the HBO Max platform to secure tax write-offs. The Sex Lives of College Girls has been a success for the network but hasn’t achieved flagship status. So far, HBO Max seems most protective of its Game of Thrones spin-offs rather than its original series.
Hopefully, The Sex Lives of College Girls can thrive despite these recent setbacks. The first two seasons covered only the first year of the girls’ college-set experience, so there’s ample material to keep the show going for another few years. Presumably, the next season will cover the beginning of the girls’ Sophomore year.
The Sex Lives of College Girls seasons 1-2 are available on HBO Max.
